Free movement in the EU
Free movement of persons is one of the four fundamental freedoms of the EU. For Union citizens it means the right to:
- Travel freely between Member States.
- Reside in other Member States for up to 3 months without specific conditions.
- Live and work in the host State on the same terms as its citizens.
Third-country family members (any nationality) gain a derived right of residence as long as the EU citizen exercises free movement.
