The right to retain one's original citizenship while acquiring Danish citizenship. Permitted since 1 September 2015.
Since 1 September 2015, Denmark has allowed dual citizenship. This means an applicant for Danish citizenship no longer needs to give up their original citizenship — and Danes who become citizens of another country do not automatically lose their Danish citizenship.
Note, however, that the rules of the original country also determine whether dual citizenship is possible. Some countries do not accept dual citizenship and require renunciation of the original.
