A Danish representation abroad is an embassy or consulate general that handles Danish interests in other contries.

If you are in your home country and want to submit an application for a residence permit in Denmark, you must use the Danish representation that receives applications and records biometric features closest to you. In many cases, it can also be an outsourcing agency that receives applications on behalf of the Danish representation. If you submit an application at an outsourcing agency, you must hand in your passport (or other travel document) so the outsourcing agency can have it verified at the representation.

If you have stayed legally in a country different from your home country for more than the past 3 months, you can also submit your application at a Danish representation or outsourcing agency in this country.

If you are staying in your home country or in another country outside Denmark, and you have submitted your application online, you must have your biometric features recorded at a Danish representation or outsourcing agency within 14 days after you have submitted your application.

In some countries where Denmark does not have a representation of its own, Denmark has made a representation agreement with Norway. This means that you can submit your application at a Norwegian embassy. Representations of other countries will only receive applications for a visa (short-term visit in Denmark). It is recommended that you contact the representation in advance to make sure that they will receive your application.

The individual representation may have additional requirements, e.g. additional passport photos and more copies of the application. Normally, you also have to pay a fee to the representation. It is recommended that you contact the representation in advance to check this before you submit your application.

The representation will forward your application to the immigration authorities – the Danish Immigration Service or the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration – which in turn will process it. Furthermore, you can send your application from abroad to the authorities in Denmark, either via the contact forms on Newtodenmark.dk or via standard mail. You must, however, still have your biometric features recorded at the representation, just as with an online application.
