What is asylum?
Asylum is granted to people who, under the UN Refugee Convention, are persecuted because of race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership of a particular social group (§ 7(1)), or who risk the death penalty, torture, or inhuman treatment (§ 7(2) and (3)).
An asylum seeker must, as a rule, apply at entry to Denmark. The case is processed by the Immigration Service, and rejections are automatically appealed to the Refugee Appeals Board.
