The Immigration Service send most letters using Digital Post

The Danish Immigration Service use Digital Post to send most letters to users above the age of 15 who have a CPR number. This applies to all recipients who have not been exempt from receiving Digital Post, regardless of their citizenship.

Our users will digitally receive letters which previously were sent by letter post. Such letters include:

  • Decisions of residence permit extension

  • Decisions of permanent residence

  • Requests for further information or documentation

  • Notices of consultation of parties involved

  • Letters of confirmation

  • Overdue notices

All citizens are registered for Digital Post

From 1 November 2014 all Danish residents above the age of 15 with a CPR number are automatically registered for Digital Post from public authorities. Unless you have been exempt, you will receive Digital Post from the Immigration Service and other public authorities.

Check your Digital Post regularly

If you have submitted an application to the Immigration Service, it is very important for you to regularly check your Digital Post. You can read your Digital Post at e.g. borger.dk. In order to access your Digital Post inbox, you will need MitID.

Get text message or email notification

At borger.dk you can enter an email address and/or mobile number, and receive an email and/or a text message when you have new Digital Post from the Immigration Service or other public authorities.

Companies also receive Digital Post

The Immigration Service use Digital Post when sending letters to companies with a CVR number.

Not all letters are sent digitally

Foreign citizens who do not have a CPR number and individuals and firms who have been exempt from receiving Digital Post from public authorities still receive letters from the Immigration Service by letter post.

Certain types of correspondence are sent by letter post due to size or content. This is the case if we, for example, return an original marriage certificate or send a passport.
